Libel, Slander and Defamation Law

 

Defamation Law:

Area of law relating to communications which damage the reputation of a person in the community or in his or her profession. Slander and libel are sub categories of defamation.

Slander:

A spoken communication published to a third party that is false and causes injury to a person’s reputation in either the community or the person’s profession.

Libel:

A written communication published to a third party that is false and causes injury to a person’s reputation in either the community or the person’s profession.
